A Bartender's Story: Chris Hoogerhyde Describes His Reaction to a Sexual Advance by Matthew Shepard (1998 Incident Report & 1999 Summons Request)

In his statement to police, Chris Hoogerhyde said he struck Shepard after Matthew asked him to join him behind a van at a lake party (presumably for sex) and grabbed his arm. The defense hoped to used testimony

by Hoogerhyde to support what many of called its planned "gay panic" defense.  That is, that McKinney panicked after Shepard made sexual advances.
